Q: How is the BMW Z4 in terms of quality?
I'm turning 17 next October, thinking about getting a 2003-2004 BMW Z4. Before you say "NOOO!" I am planning on getting a job to help pay for the maintenance and the gas. My parents will help a bit on paying the car even though they offered to pay the whole car. But I'm wondering how good the car is when its on like say an inch of snow? I only have to go through 3 hills to get home. I will use this as my daily driver, not going anywhere far. Please do tell how much maintenance costs. Also, give your opinion on the X3, and X5. The Z4 I want right now costs about 15,000 dollars. How much do you expect it to be in January of 2010. I need the car to be at least under 14,000 dollars. The X3 is about 15900 dollars, the X5 that I want is 16800 dollars. Please tell depreciation about these 3 cars. One more thing is it possible to do maintenance on the car yourself? I think its more rewarding to do that.
A: are you looking for performance because if u are it takes the z3 6.3 secs. from 0-60. there are a lot faster cars out there. no point to buy an old z3. news ones have better performance. theyll be alright in an inch of snow. no point to buying an x5. It is really tight inside. go with x3 than x5. reliability is mediocre on average. suggesstion: infiniti g35

A: the z4 is amazing car, and can run circles around most other 2-seaters, including the acclaimed auti TT and even porsche boxster (if you get the Z4M, it's as fast the M3!!!!)
however, it does suck on snow (i've driven it), and even the DSC doesnt help as much as you might think.. i guarantee you will slip and slide, because it has a lot of power, to a small, light, 2WD train.. unless you're gonna go 10mph under the speed limit all the time when it snows, think twice
if you're getting A LOT of snow if your area, i would think i about the x3 or x5 (or even x6!) i own the x3, so i can tell you from experince that it is AMAZING on snow or sleet or even ice.. you barely even feel like it's a blizzard! or, you should consider a 3-series or 5-series with xDrive (which is BMW's dynamic all wheel drive system -- it is simply fantastic)
no matter what you do though.. buy a bmw! i guarantee you will not regret it!
Q: Help negotiating the price of a used car?
Yea, I found a 2003 BMW Z4 2.5i with 77,110 miles on it, and its going for 14,990. How much can I knock off? or should I wait 2 years? if i wait, how much will the car be in 2010? and don't cars normally get cheaper when a new style of the car comes out?
oh yea, this is totally irrelevent but how old do you have to be to take money out of a certificate of deposit? a CD in other words.
A: There are a bunch of places to check car prices on the Internet. NADA guides is one - but since they are owned by the car dealers association I never recommend them. KBB is another. Driverside.com is a new site and they have some cool data showing price based on mileage which might help you figure out the future price for 2010.
Q: Buy a Pontiac Solstice, or wait for the 2010 Camaro?
I'm really digging the Pontiac Solstice, and like the small size; It fits well with my garage which is not that huge, and has a look that is definitely unique (The BMW Z4 is the only other car which comes to mind, in terms of front-end design for a covertible).
On the other hand. I'm in love with the 2010 Camaro; Bad News - Production is backed up 14k cars going forward; I could get one on the open market, but would pay above retail. And I just cannot bring myself to do that - One year is not worth several thousand dollars more.
I really don't want to wait trading in my PT Cruiser for another year, so I'm inclined go with the Pontiac.
Thoughts?
NOTE: I'd jump for the Saturn as I do dig it over the Solstice, but I have my concerns about buying a model that did not sell well and the entire brand is promised to be phased out by 2010.
A: For the same price as the Camaro, you could find the Solstice GXP, which has a 265HP Turbocharged 4 cylinder engine, which makes it much faster than the 306HP V6 Camaro, but still slower than the 426HP V8 SS.
The Solstice does handle much better and is more fun to drive than even the Camaro SS, but I have heard of lots of problems with the Solstice's convertible top breaking and other problems. The Solstice is the same car as the Saturn Sky, but the Saturn is built better and has little or no problems with the top.
If you want comfort and practicality, wait for the Camaro.
If you are into going to a race track or turning fast, go with the Solstice.
