Q: 2001 Porsche Boxster 2.7 v 2003 BMW Z4 3.0?
Can anyone tell me how much annual road tax costs on these cars in Britain? Any other thoughts on comparison would be appreciated.

A: Both have room for your scissors and combs in the glove box. The beamer is probably the better spec'd car, early boxsters were very basic inside, drove well but very basic. Haven't driven the bm but assume it would be good as most of there cars are. probably not much to choose between the two in terms of power, i suspect the porsche will be more fun.

Q: 2001 Porsche Boxster 2.7 or 2003 BMW Z4 3.0?
Can anyone tell me how much the annual road tax in Britain is on either of these cars? Thanks

A: Depends on the year of manufacture; http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/ Yes, at the moment the BMW would be £115.50/£210 for 6/12 months. The Porsche would be the same. The prices do go up slightly in April.

Q: how reliable is the 2.5 bmw z4?
I am looking at buying a 2003 bmw z4, 2.5l, manual, with about 50k miles on it. how reliable is this car, can i expect it to last me about 5 years and 50k more miles with relatively few problems?

A: that's all right...pretty reliable...thing is....check if you can view his service records...there might be a story to be told...if the original owner likes to keep his car "slow", or maybe his tachometer needle rarely dips under 5000 revs....

Q: How is owning your BMW?
I'm thinking about buying one of the following 05' BMW 525i 06' BMW 330xi, or 330i 07' BMW 328i, xi, coupe or the special edition 2002 BMW X5 4.6is in a special case the 2003 BMW Z4, love the first gen Z4. Help me pick one Tell me everything about owning one, the cost, reliability, fun of driving it, compliments, etc. And what kind do you own? Which one will last me the longest? without huge repairs. Which one won't?

A: Well i own the Z4. I bought it new so I don't have to worry much about repairs considering the dealership takes care of everything for me. The cost was somewhat expensive but owning the car is worth it. It is great fun to drive, hot looks, good on reliability and it's basically a dream car. It's not a car that you want if you live in winter conditions all year round. It holds it's own in the snow but it's more of a fall/summer/spring type of car. It get's tons of compliments everywhere you go and people literally stop you and tell you it's their dream to own one of those cars and how they wish they could get it/ own it. I get the compliments everywhere I go. If you chose the 03 z4 it may be a little less expensive than mine but It will probably give you the same amount of enjoyment ive gotten out of mine. I don't know about the other models as much but the z4 is a great car.

Q: What would be my Insurance rate?
Hey guys, will an insurance company give you a discount when your on your parents insurance plan? I looked at a 2003 BMW Z4 2.5 (My dream car), insurance is $3060, how much would it be if it was on my parents plan?

A: There is no specific discount but there are rating variables that will make it less expensive then if you buy it on your own. Generally, it will always be cheaper to be on your parents policy. You will benefit from a multi-vehicle policy if they have more then one car. You'll likely get an account discount if they own a home. And, depending on the number of vehicles you could be classified as an occasional user all of which make it cheaper to be on your parents policy. The down side: the car must be registered to your parents to add it onto their policy. (assuming your state is similar to California) Also, they probably carry higher limits of coverage then you do which will increase the cost. You can have them call to get a quote to add it to their policy for you, but remember, they would have to be the registered owner (if you live in California)

Q: Sports car for £30,000: Used Maserati Spyder vs new BMW Z4 or Porsche Boxster?
I need a new car, and for the first time i can afford a half decent one. what would you recommend? It will only do 5 - 10,000 a year. I was thinking either: http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/MASERATI+SPYDER/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-240-4294959874-4294967046/advert.action?R=200852326045096&distance=135&postcode=bs255pw&channel=CARS&make=MASERATI&model=SPYDER&min_pr=&max_pr=&max_mileage=&vehicleYearOfManufacture=2003&vehicleRegLetter=03 Or maybe a new Z4 or the like, opinions?

A: If your a real man avoid the Boxster.. And the Z4. I have to Admit however that the Maserati does look and sound good, and for that price! very very temping. Please consider these first. 2008 Audi TTS cabriolet **LED, 4WD** http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2008-08-Audi-TTS-Roadster-270-bhp-Ibis-White_W0QQitemZ140292012656QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item140292012656&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 MERCEDES SL55 AMG **With RADAR cruise** £26k http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2002-52-Mercedes-Benz-SL-55-AMG-Black_W0QQitemZ300276747330QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item300276747330&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A7|39%3A1|240%3A1318 or http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2002-Mercedes-Benz-SL-55-AMG-Black_W0QQitemZ120348943600QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item120348943600&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A7|39%3A1|240%3A1318 or SL500 for £20k http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mercedes-Benz-SL-500-Keyless-Go-Panoramic-Roof_W0QQitemZ370121310709QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item370121310709&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A7|39%3A1|240%3A1318 BMW 645 Cabriolet £23k http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/05-05-BMW-645-Ci-CONVERTIBLE-60K-FSH-FULLY-LOADED_W0QQitemZ140288421489QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item140288421489&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A7|39%3A1|240%3A1318 Or BMW 650 with Head up display £30k http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-650-SPORT-1-OWNER-7-960m-FSH-TV-NAV-HEAD-UP-DISPLAY_W0QQitemZ280297534679QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item280297534679&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1307 BMW M6 (Need I say more) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-M6_W0QQitemZ320324563120QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item320324563120&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A7|39%3A1|240%3A1318 BMW M5 (V10 supercar killer) £27k.. nasty wood in this one though. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-M5-Saloon-V10-Satellite-Navigation-Sunroof_W0QQitemZ250342296833QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item250342296833&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A7|39%3A1|240%3A1318 ASTON MARTIN V8 VANTAGE **in SILVER**: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aston-Martin-V8-Vantage-2006-Petrol-MERCURY-SILVER_W0QQitemZ250345217226QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item250345217226&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A7|39%3A1|240%3A1318 I would chose in the following order: The bomb proof SL55 amg with RADAR (have you heard the noise it makes when it blows off?). Then the M5, 645, M6, Audi TTS then possibly the Spyder. No point getting a Pram-like Z4 or Boxster when you can get a 645 for the same price and is better equipped, has better performance, is more practical and more manly. If your really want a Porsche and want to be considered Obnoxious, this is the £25k car for you: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2005-PORSCHE-CAYENNE-TURBO_W0QQitemZ120341057674QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item120341057674&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A7|39%3A1|240%3A1318 Lastly, I honestly cannot recommend buying a new car in this climate - you will be throwing your money away. Look at what has happened to all the cars listed in this thread. Let someone else take the hit. Hope this helps and ensure you purchase that after market warranty for added peace of mind, but read the small print. Do not buy a new car! unless you can really really really afford to.

Q: I have a limited income, and 60 yrs old, best last car to buy?
Want a 2003 BMW Z4 3.0i Roadster 2D Convertible but think this is very unrealistic, better idea is????? Mustang, Sebring Convertible, what???

A: Camry Solara convertible is the best choice. If this is your last car you don't want to spend time fixing it do you?

Q: can a flood car be repaired and used as an every day car ?
The car im talking about is a 2003 bmw z4 , who jumped in salt water , so the interior and the wiring needs to be changed. the owner also sad the engine turns manually ?

A: Water damaged cars are little more than scrap metal. If you've got lots of cash and can do the work yourself and don't mind constantly fixing things... then go for it. I've spoken to a few guys who have tried to revive water logged cars and they say there is just no way to ever get them running right.

Q: Do the car dealers do the return?
I have singed to buy a BMW Z4 2003 model from a Used Car dealer, my finance is still in the process.. he just called me now and told that I need more down payment( I did $2000 he is asking for $2500 more) and my APR is going a $1 up than what he said he can get me. My question is what options do I have I have paid that $2000 from my credit card and I dont have anymore money on me to pay him.. Can I ask reject to take the car now? i may be willing to take another cheaper model but does he allow any negotiation on the car? I brought the car home last night and the price of the car with the taxes is $32,000. Any ideas which help me take a decision on this are greatly appreciated. Thanks, pilot

A: Look at your contract, you must have signed something before taking the car off the lot. If he is changing it on you then you have a right to return the vehicle to him and get your money back.

Q: What car should I get?
Ok so on Saturday I am going to get a car. I can choose between an 2000 Porsche Boxster, a 2003 Bmw Z4, or a 2005 Mercedes Slk. Please help me choose

A: Pick the one that feels the best to drive. I've heard a lot of good about the BMW Z4. Boxter in my opinion is a waste of money, you are paying for the Porsche name with little performance. I haven't drivin a 05 SLK so I couldn't really tell you what I think of it

Q: Negotiating pre-owned car from a dealer?
How much can you negotiate down a pre-owned car from a dealer (BMW Z4 2003 for example)? Say if it costs 28,000, what should be the final price?

A: 1) Research the car itself--know EVERYTHING about it 2) Research how much it was purchased by the dealer--it should only be a couple thousand above that. How much is it worth new? 3) Are you ready to buy today? (if the salesperson meets your target price--if not, then move on) 4) Do you have your money in order? What is the highest price you will pay? Stick to that. Don't let him/her talk you down.

Q: Which car would be best out of this list?
Yea, I need help picking a car, I have no clue which car is best for me. I have these choices: 2003- 2004 BMW 325CI, E46, 330CI, Convert. or Coupe Price tag- 14-16k 2004 BMW 530I E60- 16k 2003 BMW Z4 3.0- 15-16k 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe- 15-16k 2005 Mini Cooper S- 15k 2005 BMW X3- 15-16k 2004 Volvo S60 R 18 hours ago - 3 days left to answer. Additional Details Which will help in the long run, and be the best for a junior in HS? (note that This will be for a HS junior, who has a job, a good surplus of money to spend for maintenance/gas. Parents will pay insurance. as well as any repairs needed. ) BTW- these cars are all low mileaged (40-60k) miles. 18 hours ago with some kind of warranty 18 hours ago

A: The 2004 Volvo S60 is rated as a reliable car at 14-16k by the Consumer Reports 2009 buying guide. I have relied on Consumer Report recommendations in the past and have always been satisfied.

Q: Which is the better car for a HS junior?
I am absolutely a car fanatic, and I know everything there is about the German brands, and some Japanese brands, which is why I picked these cars below. I need a car reliable, comfortable, good looking, safe, fair amount of money to maintain. 2003 BMW Z4 3.0, or 2.5, I prefer the 3.0 15k-16k In-Line 6, with 225 hp. 2004 BMW 325CI 15-16k Inline- 6, with 184 hp. 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe 15-16k Six Cylinders, with 298 Hp I have a job, and cool parents who'll pay insurance, and gas, probably half the maintenance. They will help me on any trouble I get, which I hope I don't, cause these cars seem pretty reliable to me. I'll have about 7.2k + by then. spending about 3200 on a down payment. note that i'm not that kind of kid who thinks that just because you have a nice car you can go and show it off, then wreck it, and get a new one. My parents didn't raise me like that, I'm a careful driver, I have seen crashed BMW's in front of my HS, and thats something I don't want to be, a stupid kid who thinks he's invincible.

A: All good cars. The Infiniti is the more reliable of the group. All of these cars will kill you on insurance, especially the Z4. All are expensive to maintain. The Infiniti is the more practical, more safe, and will give you the best performance on the road. As someone else has said, any car you get you will almost certainly wreck, as an inexperienced driver, and your best chance of survival is with the more substantial Infiniti.

Q: I've found my first car! Please tell me what you think?
I'm 15 going on 16 in October. Like any other excited teen, I'm looking at cars. I've looked at so many cars, and just gettin some ideas on what kinds of cars I can afford with the money I have now, and will have in the future. I just need a car for college so I won't be stuck in the freezin cold weather, and waiting for a dirty bus. I finally found the one, the 2003 BMW Z4. I've posted a question about it earlier today on which car I should get. So I read the answers, it says that the BMW is the best. What do you think? I've read reviews saying that the car is awesome, and very reliable. Nothin bad about the car at all. If you experienced any tell me. Also, do you think the car will still be in style in the future? How much do you think insurance will be on this car. Also, can you put Z4 M stuff on the Z4 like the M symbols on? and other stuff? The price it ranges I'm looking for is under 16,000, and I've seen a lot under that price range, do you think it will get lower? Also is it possible to get an electric convertible top installed on the car? if you can, how much do you think it will be? For those who say that I can't afford the insurance, my parents are paying for that, I'm paying for gas that it will need, and repairs or parts if needed I live in Jersey, and we have sorta big snow storms. How well does a car like this do in the winter, like on snow since most of them are rear wheel drive. But if they handle badly, I can always switch with my moms FWD sedan

A: very good car

Q: What car should I pick?
Yea I turn 16 in 2 months, but my dad won't let me get it till 17.5 at the earliest. So I found 3 cars I narrowed down to. I need the cars to be at least 10-11,000 dollars in 2 years or so. My dad will probably contribute 1000 dollars if I wait. The cars I like 2003 BMW Z4 2.5 184 HP V6 with automatic transmission (the one I really want to have) Cheapest I saw for this car was around 14,595, something around that price with an automatic 1998- 1999 BMW M3 240 HP V6 with automatic transmission 1990- 1996 Nissan 300ZX 2+2 222 HP V6 with automatic transmission how much do these cars depreciate per year? and how much will maintenance be like for these cars? I am paying for the car, I have like 3571.31 and still growing. I'm also paying gas, and repairs. insurance will be paid by my parents. Thanks. my parents might pay some of the maintenance stuff, or I can get my friend to help do the stuff. I really love 2 seaters, plus its fuel effiecient as well, the Z4 i mean. My plan is to find the car and get it delivered to me. I'm estimating I'll have about 8,000 dollars by the time I'm 18, idk about 17.5.

A: There is no way to tell for sure on how much these cars will depreciate until you reach that point. Also, you would be buying used, so there is no guarantee that you will be able to find any of these vehicles when you go to buy a car. I am almost certain that a 96 Nissan would be within your price range by then (if not already). The older of the BMWs might be within your range, or at least close. The 03 BMW is iffy if it will be within your price, but I won't say it definitively won't be priced in your range. As for maintenance and upkeep, regardless, a BMW is going to cost you a rather significant amount to repair. First of all, German cars are notorious for being complicated and over-engineered. Second, the parts will cost you more. Third, you will most likely have to get it repaired at a BMW or other European import dealership or specialized mechanic. For example, I know a couple of independent mechanics who won't even touch a BMW or Mercedes. Then comes insurance. Those BMWs would cost a small fortune to insure. The Nissan would probobly cost a fair amount too, but not nearly as much as one of the Beamers. Overall, I think your wallet would be happier with the Nissan or a comprable Japanese or American car. If you, as a young driver, want to go Euro, go VW. However, if you are planning too keep the car for a signifigant time (like after you graduate college) you may want to spring for the 03 BMW as it is newer and is less likely to have problems as soon.
