Q: HOW HARD IS IT TO PUT SEAT BELT GUIDES IN A 2000 BMW Z3?
A: If you mean the clips on the side of the seat at shoulder height, then to do it properly requires taking the seat apart.
Usually they break because someone moves the seat when the seatbelt is locked, breaking the plastic.
Q: I own a 2000 z3 2.8 automatic bmw. It is not a steptronic trans. What does the a @ m button next to the gear?
What happens when you press either the a or the m button next to the gear shifter. Also a light came on the dash which looked like a gear with and exclamation point throught it. It when out after a short period of time. What is this warning lite about.
A: The A & M (automatic and manual) button on your console puts you into a manual mode where you have to watch the tach and shift both up and down, fun but the computer does it better and more efficiently What I suggest is instead of "D" use "3" this puts you into "sport mode" It raises all shift points for the transmission 500 to 750 Rpm’s. Keep’s you in a lower gear so that you’re up on the cam. Quite a lot of fun around town, much more responsive. When you are out on the road just put it in "D" and drive the 2.8 with auto is easy and a lot of fun.
I've played with the manual setting and can't really see any use but playing. Biggest problem with it is if you accidentally hit the manual mode and come to a stop sign or light it starts off from a stop in 3rd or Drive, not very impressive
Drive it, enjoy it and have fun
Q: BMW z3 Maintenance costs and Gas effeciency???
I am looking into buying a 2000 Z3. What arer typical maintenance costs for this car (i.e. tune-up, oil change, brakes, tires, etc.) Also, do you haveto take it to the BMW dealer to get an oil change or will a local jiffy lube do it?
Is the car good on gas effeciency?
Thanks so much.... If there are any drivers out there.... please let me know the upsides and downsides of the car...
A: Look it over well before you get it, because it may have been driven hard already. You're gonna love it I'm sure, and as per German engineering it will run well for you. Parts (if they do break) might be a bit more expensive than normal car parts.
Anybody can probably change the oil/tires/brakes for you (including you in the driveway if you want)
As far as mileage it will go down as the driving experience goes up:
1.9 will get you up to 38 mpg HW
2.2 and the 3.0 will still get you 32 mpg HW
city mileage will range from around 20 mpg in the 1.9 to like 17 mpg in the 3.0
Your biggest expense is going to be the tires you go through driving such a fun vehicle.
So hopefully this info will help you decide.
Q: I now own a 2000 Z3. I am anxiously waiting for the new BMW Z2 due in 2010. I love the miata which one!?
A: Talk about quality - the answer is BMW
Talk about performance - the answer is BMW
Talk about safety - the answer is BMW
Just think about it!
Q: Will my BMW pass smog with the airbag light on?
I have a 2000 BMW Z3 and I need to go have it smog tested. I live in San Diego, CA (not sure what is required to pass in SD). The airbag light is on, do you think that will cause my car to not pass smog?
A: The Airbag light "on" means" that there is a problem with the air Bag. To pass the CA SMOG Test, your OBD-II car needs to have a diagnistic readout made by connecting a special cable to the 16 pin Diagnostic Connector under the dash. The CHECK ENGINE light must do 3 things: It must come "on" with the key "ON" and engine "OFF; The CHECK ENGINE light must go off within 4 seconds after the engine starts. The CHECK ENGINE light must stay off during the entire SMOG Check, or as long as the engine is running. A CHECK ENGINE light that never comes on, may need a new light bulb, but the car will fail the CA SMOG test, regardless.
Q: BMW Z3 windscreen user/owner opinion?
I have a 2000 Z3 and want a windscreen. Of course every manufacture claims theirs is the best.
I just want to know what a real person thinks – especially if there is a product to definitely stay away from.
I am also looking at a Tonneau and soft-boot cover, but the windscreen comes first.

Exactly how bad does the Lexan look, and does it scratch like i have read?
I live in Tucson and can have the top down probably 10 months of the year.
A: i have both the factory zipper windscreen and the lexan one that you strap on the roll hoops withe velcro straps. i prefer the "look" of the factory windscreen... but it's visibility isn't as great and it doesn't work as well as the lexan one. The only thing I don't like about the lexan one is that it doesn't look factory. But, it works really well, keeps wind and noise levels down and is much preferred by most of my passengers.
Q: BMW Z3 Windscreen question.?
I bought the TopDown Windscreen (not that I am sure it matters which brand), for my 2000 Z3 and it does not work worth a crap. In fact, I swear that the wind in the cockpit is worse.
Now, it really only installs one way, so I do not see how that can be the problem (although I suppose I could be doing something wrong).
Any suggestions? Does anyone have one of these damn things that actually works?

Tam Tam --
Yeah, the fact that it looks really stupid only adds insult to the injury.
A: I never used that one so I cannot help you with it, but those little " wings" look funky to me.
Personal experience, I bought one of these and it worked GREAT.

good luck to you
Q: Price for a 00 bmw Z3?
A guy wants to sell a 2000 Z3, 2.8 loaded and in excellent condition.
He is asking 16,500 for it, is this a good asking price
A: The guy is a scum bag. He, like every other car owner, wants the best possible value for his vehicle; he may also manipulate you by saying garbage like "oh you're not the only one looking at this car and it will sell easily." A z3 cannot retain its value especially because it is nearly 8 years old. I suggest you go to a certified BMW dealer and have look at z4's and if you must a z3.
Q: What is causing my car's coolant to leak out from the radiator/expansion tank cap?
I have a 2000 BMW Z3 and just recently, it has started releasing radiator fluid from under the radiator cap in quick bursts every 10 seconds or so. When I start the car and let it idle, it takes a minute to do this; when I rev the engine, the higher I rev, the faster the fluid leaks out. I've tried replacing the cap but the problem continues. What is more likely to be the cause of this problem - the expansion tank or the thermostat? Or is there something I might be overlooking that could cause this?
A: Water Pump or Head Gasket.
Q: Where can I find a hood alarm switch?
2000 BMW Z3. I was hoping to avoid a BMW dealership. I unplugged the one under the hood to enable the keyless entry.
The keyless entry/alarm sys. wouldn't activate with the hood switch plugged in. I would fiddle with it ,sometimes working sometimes not. So I unplugged it to get the alarm sys. to work. The switch needs to be replaced and I wanted to see if there was an alternative to a BMW dealership.
A: The switch shouldn't cost a lot even from the dealership.
If you have intermittent connection, how about spraying some contact cleaner into the switch first?
Also, see if you can look up the part number from realoem.com then do a google search.
Q: Where is the coolant leaking from?
My 2000 BMW Z3 is leaking coolant from what appears to be below the engine. I recently had the expansion tank changed and that area is dry, so I know it's not from that. I don't think it is a blown head gasket either since the exhaust does not smell strange and other symptoms of a blown head gasket don't match the problem as well. What could be the problem?
A: The previous answer is really good but I'd like to add that the water pump itself might be leaking near the shaft if it is worn out. That happened to me once.
Q: I'm filing for chap 7 bankruptcy, can they take my car?
I don't owe any money on the car. It is paid off. Me and my dads name are on the title. When the car was purchased, he wrote a check for it, in his name. I live with my fiance, this is the only car between us to drive. The car is a 2000 BMW Z3 Roadster and we live in Arizona (if that helps).
A: NO...they cannot take the car....in filing a bankruptcy they would only take it if it where still financed and then you'd still be able to keep it by agreeing to continuing to pay..what they call re-affirming the loan. You own this vehicle outright, they can't get the car.
Q: Please make a choice. Used: BMW Z3 1.9 - Fiat Coupe 2.0 Turbo - Peugeot 206 CC?
I would like to get on of these, used. Just wonder what you would go for and why. Thanks ! :)
Lets say they are all benzin and have mileage of 50k. Year about 2000.
A: My personal choice would be the BMW, the quality and reliability will be so much better, the only downside is it will be the most expensive.

Q: Are BMW Z3's reliable?
I was reading some reviews and most people rated it as being reliable but there was like 1 person that said it was in the shop all the time. I am mainly interested in like the 2000 model, and was wondering what people would recommend if one was to buy a used one.
A: agree with frosty p, i had a 2.0L on a 1999 t reg, great reliable car, plusses, goes like a rocket, great handling, but the chassis is from the e36 and so is the suspension so it is not great (buy one from 2001 onwards if you can affoard it) and of course the aforementioned oxygen sensor and waterpump/airlock problems are common to many bmw's of that age. overall it was a great drive, never let me down once and was only ever in the garage for routine or proavtive maintainance. Get one you wont regret it.
