Q: About how much would my 1998 BMW Z3 cost for a 60,000 mile checkup/maintenance?
A: depends on where you take it and what it needs best you just call a few shops and ask before say something like i need my car check or i need maintenace done you want to know what it needs and price before they work on it you should read up on car care and maintenance so you know more about the car an dwhat needs done and when it needs it even if your not doing it yourself it will save you money an dhelp you keep from being taking
Q: is it worth it to get a $500 checkup on my 1998 BMW Z3? It's close to the 60,000 mile mark and running fine.?
A: lots of variables there. 60k-70k miles is when things like spark plugs and accessory belts get worn out. Its worth it as a preventive measure If its your daily transportation. $500 is steep, but its a BMW so that makes sense. I would do your checkup for free if you let me take your car out for a spin afterwards.
Q: How difficult is it to change an alternator belt?
I have a 1998 BMW Z3. Is it difficult to change the alternator belt? I really don't know anything about car repair, but I'd like to avoid paying a mechanic to do something if I could easily do it myself.
If you have any how-to links, I'd greatly appreciate 'em.
thanks!
A: just google for "bimmer forums" or similar items. There are a bunch out there and very helpful. I do know those engines do have a certain technique to replacing them, but most BMW's are fairly simple. (I am not sure of the exact proceedures for a z3) They are just very different from US cars.
Q: Z3 Engine Troubles. Runs Rich, Need Help!?
Whenever my engine gets up to full temperature it begins to foul out as you apply alot of throttle. At low RPMs it doesnt miss a beat unless im accelerating. Usually clears out above 5000 rpm. Its a 1998 Bmw Z3 1.9L, brings up codes for Camshaft Position Sensor, O2 Sensor, and multiple cylinder misfire. Ive replaced the CPS and O2 sensor in the last month, havent reset the codes, but problem persists. Any Suggestions?
A: Hi Andy
There are a few things that could solve the issue, but can't say for sure without checking the car: -
1) Get the codes re-set, drive the car from cold for 15 minutes and check to see what codes (if any) then show up
2) Clean the injectors using a fuel additive
3) Clean the Cat with Cataclean (another fuel additive BUT DO NOT MIX WITH THE INJECTOR CLEANER!!)
4) Change the spark plugs
5) Check/change the air and fuel filters
6) Check the fuel pump
7) Replace HT leads
8) Replace engine thermostat
If these don't solve the problem it could be your air flow meter (aka air mass meter).
I hope this helps,
Andy
Q: Possible reasons for car shaking when idle?
I have a 1998 BMW Z3 which has 74,000 miles on it. Just yesterday the "check engine" light came on and the car is now shaking when it is in idle. When I am driving it feels fine but when I come to a stop, I feel it shake a bit. What could be the reasons? What should I ask the mechanic to check for?
A: try giving the car a tiny bit of gas while stopped to raise your RPMs just a bit. Sometimes if the idle is low, the engine will shake more than ususal. Funny idling can have a number of causes including dirty air filter, fuel injectors or MAF sensor.
Just describe the symptoms to the mechanic - he'll figure it out from there.
Q: Is there a reset switch to trip when you run a bmw motor hot?
1998 z3. Motor spins but will not fire. Thanks. Audra
A: if you overheated your engine you may have warped the head or blew your head gasket. there is no reset for overheating an engine, it just needs to be repaired.
Q: what do you prefer?
1998 mercedes slk 230
or
1998 bmw z3 ??/
A: Mercedes I love them
but i also had a z3 1996 with 180.000 miles
I kept it 4 months it was really nice and quick...
a little marvel... though choice... but as a second or third vehicle no hesitation...
but Mercedes is my first choice...
Q: would insurance be cheaper on a.......?
would insurance be cheaper on a bmw z3...or a bmw m3 (both around the same year about a 1999 or 1998 maybe 2000)
and for a 16 year old
A: Depends entirely on the insurance group of the car. Insurance companies rate (normal) cars from group 1-20 (1 being lowest and non existent, 20 being the highest).
The BMW M3 is a high performance car and therefore falls into groups ranging from 18-20
The BMW Z3 depends mainly on the engine size, ranging from only group 14 for a 1.8i, up to group 18 for a 3.0i. However there has been a BMW Z3 M .. basically a Z3 with the M3 engine; this car is also group 20, and is also the fastest BMW around.
To summarise, the cheapest of the two cars would be a SMALLER ENGINED Z3
If you are going to pay for a group 20 BMW M3, then you might aswell be paying for a group 20 BMW Z3 M, same price, better performance!
However as you stated this is for a 16 year old (and im assuming you can drive at that age in your place of residence!) I think it is highly unlikely for an insurance company to offer insurance on a performance car like these BMW's. If you are lucky the smallest Z3 may be possible, but could be hugely expensive!
