Q: BMW OR MERCEDES? models comparison?
BMW OR MERCEDES? models comparison? During the last 7 years, I had the pleasure to drive 2 bmw's, first one was 1996 318IS with M3KIT, second was 328IS 1999 also with M3 kit. Now Im driving a regular mini van since I sold my bm and thinking of buying one this summer, either a bmw or mercedes....I need you people to give me the in's and out's of these models: 2002-2004 BMW series 3 ( 325 and above) and series 5 ( no m3 or m5, cant afford it). Also, the 2002 mercedes c320 is the one mercedes im looking at, mainly for its price, listed at 11K, seller is willing to let go for 9K, fair price? thx in advance. TO K: well its not a matter of liking slow cars... its just happened that way.... my first car ever was the 318is, manual car.... 328 is much faster then 318.... now Im really not sure what will be my last choice, Im going next week to check the mercedes for less then 10k and see how it goes.

A: In 2002, the C320 with 4matic was a $45,000 car. Now you can get it for $10,000. Jump at it! It'll last forever. You cannot say the same for the BMW's baby 3-series lineup. Clearly you like slow cars (the 318? Seriously?) so the C320 might be a surprising step up. It has the upgraded V6 engine (compared to the 4-cyl in the C240) and the optional 4matic grips the road like velcro. The '02-'04 BMW 3-series are still slow and hadn't caught up to the newer generation's still-slow-but-not-as-slow engines. It sounds like you want a BMW but I'd strongly suggest going for the better built alternative. And to the mo who suggested that BMWs "always come out on top," that couldn't be more false. Mercedes may not be as AGILE but it's pretty much better in every other aspect. Faster, more reliable, better quality of parts, better interior, more comfortable, more legroom, more trunk space...

Q: Is the Volkswagen Passat the fastest "REGULAR FAMILY SEDAN"?
I'm not talking about ultra expensive sports sedans like the BMW M5, Caddilac CTS-V, Brabus Rocket, Audi RS4, etc, just regular sedans like Camry, Accord, Galant, Passat, Malibu, Sonata, Focus, Sebring, etc. I was looking online, and I noticed that a 4 Cylinder 2002 Passat can do 155.3 MPH(250 km/h) on the autobahn, and that an 8 cylinder 2002 Passat W8 can do 174 mph(280 km/h) all with stock engines, but just the speed limiter deactivated. Is this the fastest compared to the other REGULAR SEDANS like the Accord, Camry, etc? does it have to do with the 0.27 drag coefficient of the Passat compared to the higher ones of the other cars or what? Here's the SOURCES. Passat W8 Top Speed http://www.need4speed.ws/top-speed/Firestarter_PassatW8_174mph/VW-Passat-W8-Tiptronic-Delimited-174-mph-GPS-280-kmh.html http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Passat-W8-Six-Speed-Top_122462.htm Passat 4 Cylinder Top Speed. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/STOCK-Volkswagen-Passat_74330.htm Um, BTW, I guess some of you haven't read up too much on Passats. Even the 2006 Passat R36 has 300 Horsepower with and Dual Clutches with Launch Control. In other words it KILLS any Maxima in 0-60. Even a 2012 Maxima would lose to it. For Passat R36 0-100 km/h(0-62mph) is 5.6 seconds, and 0-60 should be around 5.0. http://www.worldcarfans.com/2061120.001/volkswagen-passat-r36-unveiled

A: The Maxima is a joke compared to a fast stock Passat like the W8 or the R36. I mean HELLO, the Passat is an Autobahn Cruiser so OBVIOUSLY it's going to be faster than a Maxima. I think even a regular V6 Passat will outrun the Maxima. The R36 or W8 would crush the Maxima. Maximas are like a brick compared to a Passat which is far more slippery to the wind, and that's why it has a so much higher top speed. Actually wind resistance makes a huge difference in top speed. The original Lexus LS400 was a 2 ton sedan with only 250 bhp, but it had a top speed of about 157 mph because it was very slippery to the wind. It had the same top speed as a Mazda RX7 or Toyota Supra from the same time.

A: 328is?? I assumes you mean the BMW e36 328i sport with the ///M-tec extras. Driven all the 3series and I find the 328i sport amazing. The e36 chassis is better than the e46.. The e46 328ci did not offer any finer luxuries than the e36.. 318is was not a bad car, just lacked the horsepower but is economical and the bills are not too heavy-parts are cheap as breakers stock alot of parts. Also, the 318ti was ok-just hated the fact it had the rear axle from the e30 and also the dash. I would lean towards a 328 as the engine is solid and BMW never squeezed out too much bhp from the engine.. Very smooth! Only this missing are the Vader seats!
