Q: whos an expert on bmw m5`s engines ???
is there an engine difference between 1999 m5 and 2000+ m5 ??? could anyone help please ?? :(

A: No real engine difference from 98-03. Big difference between 03 and 06. 91-95 E34 ~310HP l6 98-03 E39 ~400HP V8 06+ E60 500HP V10 The years listed are US sold years. The M5 was sold elsewhere before it got to the US. Not sure where you are.

Q: Ahhhhhh Help with choosing a BMW for me!?
I currently have a 2003 BMW M3. (68k m) I can get a 2000 BMW M5 (52k m) if I trade in the M3. So either a E39 M5, or E46 M3. Please I really cant decide. (I know life sucks) can someone give the the pros and cons for this

A: Stay with your car. No need to change it for an older model that is not even that much faster or better. I also think the M3 looks better. good luck

Q: e39 BMW part?
The car in question is a 2000 BMW M5, and the part is located on the side of the differential. In the last picture, the front of the part is on the left of the diff. Can anyone provide me with a link to buy this part? Or if you could even tell me exactly what it is...?! This car was purchased from an insurance auction from my uncle, who then sold it to me for a project. I happen to know that the previous owner did not take very good care of it. Any vehicle that is mistreated stands greater odds of breaking, even the Ultimate Driving Machine. Well, all the lights on my dash are currently on (flood damage). I believe this part may be responsible for the knocking every time I shift. Thanks again for the answers, Richie- Yes it is a little dirty! The seal on the differential was leaking. Andrew- That does look like the correct part, put on my car, it is connected to the differential... although they do look very much alike.

A: Looks like --> RUBBER MOUNTING FRONT Part number 33171090389 From any BMW dealer. Double check the diagram in the link I posted.

Q: Why Do So Many People Like BBS LM Le Mans or LM-R Wheels?
I have a 2000 BMW M5 and I thought the factory wheels look pretty good on it. My friend swore up and down that the BBS LM wheels or replica of it would look really good on the car. I saw the design of the wheels and nothing really struck me about the rims as being spectacular. They dont seem to be ugly wheels but they look ok. Anyway I decided to get a set of BBS LM replicas and put on my car 18" wheels which is the same size as the stock one. I thought it looks ok but I started to get a lot of compliments at the dealership and on the street. I still don't understand what is it about the design of these wheels that people go nut over especially the Euro Motorsport Enthusiasts. I don't know what it is ::::shrug::::: Can some one please explain ????? Thanks

Q: can I install an SMG gearbox to a BMW E39?
can I install an SMG gearbox to a BMW E39? this gearbox comes with a 2000+ mod BMW M3 or BMW M5 mod 2005.

A: No. It was never available in europe, so you can't even get the engine computer to talk to the transmission computer. The SMG transmission can't handle the additional torque of the 5.0L V8 on the E39 M5. The E46 M3 has less power and MUCH less torque, so it works. The 2005 M5 has a V10 engine and totally different electronics from the E39 chassis. Also the SMG III in the new M5 is a seven speed unit which is dimensionally different from your transmission.

Q: BMW cluster interchange?
Will an instrument cluster from a 1995 BMW 740 fit a 2000 M5? Where can I verify if parts are interchangable?

A: nooooooooooooo. the cluster from the 95 seven series is an e32 cluster. this will be interchangable with an e34 five series. but not an e39.

A: Depends how fast you want to go and how much fuel you're willing to put in it. I'd have to say the 'optimum' 5-sreies is probably one of the bigger petrol sixes or a 530d, in SE or Sport trim in a nice, dark metallic. The V8s aren't significantly faster, don't handle as well, and cost a lot more to fuel, and maintain, while the smaller sixes do struggle a bit with such a heavy car, particularly with the automatic transmission option, which means their fuel consumption is little better than the bigger engines. OK, if I had to pick an ideal spec, I'd have a facelift model (X plate onwards) 530i Sport Auto, dark blue metallic with cream leather and the 18" M5-style alloys.

My parents made a deal wih me that if I buy the car and pay half the insurrance, they will pay for gas. Any other options out there? I do not want a Honda or a Toyota (don't like the styling)

A: I hope you have a good check book to maintain and repair any of these vehicles. Buy none of them!!! None of them have been good cars.

A: If you are talking stock, the BMW Z8 (2000 was the first year) with its low curb weight and a the same 400 hp V8 in the M5 is the fastest in terms of 0-60 times, but quarter mile times are very similar with the M3 and M5. It accelerated to sixty in 4.2 sec, beating the M3 and M5. The quarter mile runs at 12.9 sec @ 109.9mph, within tenths of a second around the M3's (13.1@105) and M5's (mid 13's) times. Like the M3 and M5, the top speed was restricted to 155 mph, but people with the unrestricted chips (aftermarket) have gone to around 186 mph, or 300 km/h in a Z8, M3, or M5.

Q: BMW Differential problems!?
Hey guys/girls: I need to replace the differential on my 2000 M5, and I can't find a used diff. for that specific model/year. I found one on Ebay, but I can't figure out if it will work on my car. A: Neg. That is a Non-LSD differential. Your M5 should have an Limited Slip Differential(posi not open). The correct part number for the Diff you need is 33102229566. Ask around on Bimmerforums.com or the BMWCCA website to see if others have one.

Q: BMW Part number?
I am trying to fix my 2000 M5, and I cannot find a part... I need the bearings for the differential, I believe they are called the pinion and carrier bearings. I called the dealer, and they said they can't find just the bearings, only a "Seal Kit", but I've already replaced the seals, which I bought individually on my own. Can anybody find the parts, or the part numbers?? It would be a great conveniance to me if they were found soon. Thanks I tried Realoem.com ( I used it last time you recommended it too!), but they don't have it listed. The dealer said it isn't for sale, but it "may" be included with the Seal Kit they offer...

A: Yep HUGE problem there too ONLY BMW has all the bearings that fit if you buy them thru anyone else most certaiinly they purchased then thru BMW before they sold it to you. They are oddball and hard to find without going thru BMW. And BMW is quite proud they cornered the market on these. And to make things more interesting they own all the diff mounts too.

my mom drives a 2003 525it and the engine's sound makes the best thing iv ever herd but but im looking for a first car and i wanted to know does the m5 e28 or e34, 1999 540it , e26 m6 ,or the m3s before 2000 have that same sound like on newer cars just from your (experience) or a roar of their own

A: Its the inline six exhaust note. And yes it is one of the sweetest noises you'll ever hear. Half a V12, anyone whos ever been overtaken by a Bimmer in a tunnel knows what you mean. The 540 is a v8 and doesnt quite have the same sound.

Q: Do girls like a guy with a nice car, such as mine?
I got a BMW M5 Black on Black Dinan performance package, limo tint, and two 12 inch JL Audio subs with a 2000 watt amp not to mention 19 inch rims and run flat tires

A: It might attract the attention of a girl, but most won't stay around unless there's a good personality driving the car. The girls that will stay around just because of the nice car are the girls who aren't worth having.
