Q: Car title Help! 2004 BMW M3?
I am buying a car from a private seller and he wants me to pay his debt from BMW USA first so that they can release his title. The problem is the title is still going to be under his name after BMW releases it. I tried going though a bank but did not got approved. He has agreed on a notarized bill of sale and specific power of attorney for the car registration. Anyways he can still revoke his power of attorney. Is there any safe way to buy this car? Thanks for your comments.
It is 2004 BMW M3
A: I ran into this problem 2 different times when I was buying a car from an individual who had financed it with BMW Financial. They are almost impossible to work with. The first time I had to send the seller my check for the car and he kept the car for 10 days until BMW Financial released the car title to him. Even though I lived 500 miles from the seller and did not know him, I trusted him and everything turned out fine.
On the second transaction, the seller got fed up with BMW Financial and paid his local BMW dealer $200 to handle the sale for us.
Your seller is probably trustworthy. BMW Financial will make anyone who buys a car for them jump through hoops if they do not sell the car through the dealer.
Q: What car is better? 2004 - 2005 Subaru WRX STI, Or 2000 - 2004 BMW e46 M3?
Hey
im debating what car to buy and am stuck between these two. What one would be the better choice? Please list all pros and cons, thank you!
A: bmw is perhaps better looking but for performance / handling the subaru is by far the better car........motor trend test of the sti in 04
Motor Trend
October 2004
0-30 1.2
0-40 2.2
0-60 4.7
0-100 10.8
1/4 mile 13.2 at 100.1mph
Braking 100-0 315ft
which is basically where the m3 fits with various reviews placing it between 4.6 and 4.9 sec., but the bmw is slower in the 1/4
in terms of handling - sti and its all wheel drive system is almost untouchable.
lastly, just like the evo the subaru engine is exceptionally strong and dependable-that means it can be upgraded for more power plus its cheaper and easier to maintain.
bmw's are generally good cars, but dependability ratings are really only fair and costs of service and repairs is right at the top of the scale.
subaru strength and dependability are unquestionable and i guarantee you a bmw can never be modified to get to this...

Q: hi peeps was just wonder cos the bro just bought a 2004 m3 bmw and when you push the sport mode...?
what does it actually do to the car?I know the reason behind it but what does it do to the cars components cheers jas
A: As M333 mentions above, the "sport" button is a part of a BMW calls the "M Dynamic Driving Control" system and it remaps the throttle response curve. An in-depth look at that remapping is available at this link:
http://e46m3performance.com/tech/throttle/sport-mode.htm
In addition to the throttle re-mapping, the power assist is reduced to the steering system which causes the car to drive with a firmer road feel.
Q: (UK) Where to find a wiring diagram for a BMW M3 2004 (car)?
Just wondering if anyone can help me, just working on a mates car and this would be really useful. Be prepared to pay.
Cheers!
Thanks Leo, I'm checking that link out shortly!
Hey haggismuncher (I like haggis too!), cheers for the torrent hint. My computers running fine though, so I don't wanna go ruin it by installing P2P, but thanks anyway!
shaywillfixit - not everyone HAS the money for a 'proper mechanic', but thank you for the offer.

Are there any other ones that are better?
A: Active Autowerke usually makes good kits, but they're expensive (www.activeautowerke.com). Before I commited to any kit, I would find out if they have a twin-screw version currently being developed. If they do, I would wait for that. It would create a low more power down low in the powerband.
Q: How much is insurance per year on a E46 BMW M3?
I'm looking into buying a 2002-2004 M3. I'm 18 yo male with a clean driving record.
A: / My 'guess' would be around $2,500.00 a year for you...
The reason I am guessing, is because auto insurance cost depends on your credit history first - believe it or not.
Secondly, it's not your fault that you fit in the category of being a young male, but they are the worst drivers (wreckless speeding, accidents, swerving in and out of traffic, road rage, racing on public roads, etc), so your insurance will be higher than normal simply because of the others who gave your gender and age group a bad driving history.
Third, having a clean driving record at 18 is a big 'plus' and if you can stay that way until you are 21, you will be better than most young male drivers, and your insurance will go down considerably at that time.
Lastly, you are asking for insurance on an expensive automobile which will be driven by someone who fits in the category as the worst drivers, so automatically you will be paying the highest rate without having done anything wrong.
The problem with insurance quotes from places like Progressive.com, is that they will quote you a lower rate than they will eventually charge you. You will find that within a month of signing up, they'll have an excuse to raise your rate without you knowing it. Geico and Progressive have class action lawsuits against them for doing this to new drivers.
Hopefully, if possible, you can get on your parent's insurance plan at a reasonable rate first.
Q: 04 bmw m3 or 09 335i - regardless of price?
If you had the option of purchasing a 2004 bmw m3 smg in perfect condition with low miles or a brand new 335i - regardless of price - which would you choose and why?
A: M3 always. An M will always be an M and if you are a fanatic (not only of the e46) but of BMW you will know what the M truly means. Ask any enthusiast and they will tell you the same. Speed, weight, power all roughly the same on both cars. Stiffer suspension on the M3 means tighter corners but a little harder of a ride. E46 M3 is arguably the best car BMW has ever made. And don't listen to anyone ever telling you that the M3 engine isn't any good, I hate that argument it is SO wrong.
"The S54 won the International Engine of the Year award overall for 2001, and also claimed the "Best New Engine" that year as well as won the 3-4 L category for six straight years in a row from 2001 through 2006. The S54 was also on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2002 through 2004."

Q: BMW M3 GTR (non race spec)?
I have asked this question previously, but:
Would anyone happen to know the factory price, bhp, tourque, weight, and other permiscious questions I can't think of about the 2004 BMW M3 GTR. Preferably, a German can answer this question, but all questions are welcome. Now I am asking about the factory spec M3 GTR, not race spec, as specified in the title.
Any help is appreciated.
A: First off, there is no such thing as a 2004 (E46) M3 GTR, it doesn't exist the only time the M3 was developed into a GTR was in 2001. The purpose of this was to compete against Porsche in Le Mans Style racing. The M3 was being vastly outpaced by the 996 GT3. BMW decided to fit a V8, but in the 2001 model year. In reality there is no great difference between a 2001 and 2004, same chassis, size, etc. But, figuring you still wanted GTR technical specs, I provided the only ones my BMW dealership had on record.
2001 BMW M3 GTR Street Version
In February 2001 BMW developed a pure-bred sportscar for road use - the BMW M3 GTR powered by a V8 engine. This car, which is racing from victory to victory in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), is built by BMW M from January 2002. The flexible production facilities of BMW Individual permit the production of a small series. Road licensing is possible.
By using carbon fiber body parts and by completely foregoing any comfort equipment, the two-seater M3 GTR is a car for true purists. An empty weight of approx. 1350 kilograms has been achieved. The 4.0 litre V8 engine with a cylinder bank angle of 90 degrees resembles the race version featuring in excess of 450 hp. Due to the necessary adaptations regarding emissions and noise levels the road version still generates more than 258 kW (350 hp).
The M3 GTR road version is kept technically as close as possible to the racing version. Apart from the extremely light V8 engine this includes dry sump lubrication, a 6-speed gearbox, a two-disc sports clutch and the variable M differential lock.
For weight reduction purposes the roof, the rear spoiler as well as the front and rear aprons are made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic - just like in the race version. The extended front and rear apron as well as the rear spoiler optimize the aerodynamics of the M3 GTR. Additional cooling slits in the bonnet ensure the high-performance powerplant's thermal well-being.
The BMW M3 GTR features an extremely lowered suspension and enormously sporty suspension settings. The compact V8 high-performance engine permits optimum weight distribution which, together with the 19-inch sports wheels, guarantee outstanding handling properties.
This level of exclusiveness also calls for a great deal of highly qualified manual workmanship giving the price of the BMW M3 GTR a new dimension. The price of approx. 350,000 euros reflects the extraordinary technology of this car.

Q: Is there a way to play dvd movies in the entertainment system on a bmw m3?
2004 e46 m3 with the sat nav/tv/6 disc cd changer. Just looking for a way to play movies thru the screen for longer journeys.
A: nothing will show while you are moving - safety is paramount to stop the driver being distracted
Q: 2002 BMW M3 Convertible vs 2004 Mercedes-Benz CLK55 AMG?
If you had a choice between these two which one would you choose?
i already have these two cars but i want to know which one i should keep for myself.
A: The CLK55 AMG. The BMW is like waving a red cape at every traffic cop on the road. When was the last time you saw a Mercedes pulled over by the cops?
Q: What can you add to an BMW M3?
I have a 2004 BMW e46 M3 coupe.
I added a lot of stuff to the interior and the body so it looks great.
But now only thing I have left to do is to add stuff to the engine.
I am thinking about definitely adding new exhaust, intake, blow off, powerchip and other minor stuff.
But for the major part, I want to add like stage turbo, twin turbo, or a supercharger.
I know this would cost alot but which one would be the best thing to do?
I am looking for great performance with the car.
Also, is there anything that you can do to make the car handling even better?
Thanks.
A: As for performance, go with the twin turbo. The supercharger will tear your engine to pieces, and the turbo, though great, has some lag. The twin turbo will nearly double your hp, and has no turbo lag.
For the handling...buy bilstein suspension. They'll cost you about $1200, but its the best thing you could possible do. Make your car as light as possible...take out the spare tire, the jack, and anything else that you dont need. Also, buy some good tires and wide rims. The more tire you have on the road, the better the handling. As for tires, i suggest cooper 2xs, yokohama, nitto, or any other good street legal race tire.
